On November 13th, 2025, Marc successfully defended his thesis! Congrats Dr. Falandt for this fantastic milestone!

It has been a great pleasure to do science together with Marc in the past 4 years. He brought new, bold ideas to the lab, and complemented our team with his expertise in polymer chemistry, helping the group to introduce new materials in our workflow, including hydrogels with surprising properties, that are now being further investigated in follow-up projects. His thesis "Dynamic by Design", collects some of the key works he lead and contributed to, with a central focus on #light responsive hydrogels for volumetric #bioprinting.

In parallel, Marc always demonstrated exceptional commitment to teaching and sharing his expertise with new students, and achieved his University Teaching Qualification together with his PhD. All the best for your new career steps in education and teaching, Marc!

Some of his thesis chapters are already available #openacess, including:

- Spatially patterning functional growth factors deep within gels using tomographic light projections: https://advanced.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/admt.202300026

- Bioprinting of thermoshrinkable hydrogels for high resolution fabrication of tissue culture platforms: https://advanced.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/adfm.202502042

- Developing hybrid covalent-supramolecular gelatins for organoid tissue culture and #biofabrication: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.01.06.631505v1 (patent application: WO2025040266)

More papers are in the making, so keep an eye on social media and on this pages to stay up to date! On behalf of all the supervisory (Riccardo Levato, Jos Malda, and Paulina Nunez Bernal), big congrats to Dr. Falandt!

The work that lead to Marc's thesis was supproted by the European Research Council (VOLUME-BIO, ERC StG, grant agreement 949806)
