Double PhD: Congrats Nuria and Nils!

On October 14th and October 14th, we celebrated two newly minted Doctors at Utrecht University! Congrats to Nuria Gines Rodriguez and Nils Bessler!

Nuria's thesis focused on the development of advanced in vitro models and organ-on-chip platforms to model joint inflammation and osteoarthritis. She worked on the convergence of laser induced forward transfer (LIFT) with melt electrowriting, microfluidic chips, and even printed artificial cells!

Nils, who worked in the lab of Anne Rios at the Princess Maxima Center, over the course of his doctoral studies developed brain organoids and light-based DLP bioprinting to model a aggressive paediatric glioma, and immunotherapies to counter it. Both works bring innovation in the field of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to build human-revelant models for medical research as alternatives to animal experimentation.
